They Crucified Me
Long years have passed and we still remember
The years gone by when tears shed by a believer
Spent wasted from silver coins of dread
Because the justice of God was never read.
Torn, abandoned, spitted and burned
The flesh and wound could have even mourned
Yet he survived even carried his death
To the place where criminals and enemies were being led.
He walked, stabbed, walked and stumped
Along the path where sinners could only trod
But He is God who became man like us
The Son of God whose wisdom cannot be surpassed.
He passed the houses, visited and greeted
With compassion he looked their eyes though weakened
Nothing in mind an ounce of sadness and revenge
Even if crowned with hate and thorn in his head.
Crucify him crucify him they said
Hearing the sound and cry could only have bled
My heart so pure, while theirs are not, I ask, “why?”
Yet deep inside I know that is what I could also have said.
His hands outstretched, palms were opened
As the nails went through his love even deepened
And the cause of the cross now being concealed
With his life and blood the world was redeemed.
