Matthew 5:13-16
January 9, 2020
We are facing the magnanimity of cultural, religious and social imbalance in all parts of the world today. The sky scrappers, the fast changing discoveries and breakthroughs in medicine and technology as well as in science. These are the huge advancements of the world and yet at the back of it all are deprivation, hunger, materialism, individualism, unbelief, indifference and a human taste for greatness and power.
Even with almost everything, we can still hear news about drugs, suicide, depression, and other sorts of human imbalance.
The gospel sends us today with the mission, that is, to be the salt and light of the world.
With the fresh world, we see decay. With new realities, we still see darkness.
Our world needs more than ever persons who possess the beatitudes in the gospel. We need people who are humble and meek. We need people who seeks peace and compassion over anger and judgement. Ee need people who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the sake of others, of God's kingdom.
But as the salt and light, we need to work together. We need each other. So that our simple efforts may create ripples of change and difference in this world.
And as the second reading from St. Paul would remind us, our work and efforts will never be enough unless we put our trust and dependence on the power and grace of God.
May our work be blessed by the Lord!
God bless!
