Our sincere gratitude to our guest speaker tonight Mr. Gandalf Ray D. Lao, for inspiring and motivating our graduates, the class of 2023. Your success is truly worth praising. Even with short notice, you managed to deliver a powerful message tonight. Thank you and more blessings on your career.

People of Mapun, Today is a historic day. Today we make history!

Today, unlike any other day, the Notre Dame of Cagayan High School celebrates its first-ever commencement exercises for this School Year 2022-2023. This is a huge achievement of NDC and of the whole Jama Mapun in which our dream including the dreams of our predecessors has been fulfilled. We are proud to say that we now have graduates.

Graduates, you have been tried and weighed. For six long years at Notre Dame of Cagayan, you have been resilient. You survived the Modular Learning Modality during the pandemic. You survived the home-schooling. I don’t know what techniques you used but those years were tough and challenging and yet you remained strong, you stood still. And so I say, you surely are the epitome of persistence and endurance.

The sacrifices that you have shown will one day pay off. Continue to strive for excellence in whatever you do. Continue to reach for your potential to be the best version of yourself. Do not let your weaknesses, intimidation, and discouragement take away your dreams. Continue to become an inspiration to many people. Always remember your family, friends, and relatives in whichever path you take. They are your source of strength and purpose. Dreams do come true. So never be lazy about reaching for what you truly want.

If one day you will tread a difficult path, always remember that nothing is easy. That everything has its own thorns and scars. But be assured as well that though you may feel afraid at times, it’s never a reason to give up on your future. In Mapun, we always say that “everyone who has drank the water of Mapun, will always find going back in Mapun.” But when you come back, always be proud because a Jama Mapun has once again conquered the dreams and pedestals which only a few have achieved.

Notre Dame, your Alma Mater will always be proud of you. Make your Alma Mater proud! So go out there and help create to make this world a better place to live. There is nothing else more important for us, your parents, family, the NDC family, and that you will be successful, achieve great things, reach far places, and of course find meaning and happiness in all you do. Good Luck graduates. Make us proud. Make your Alma Mater proud. Make the Jama Mapun Proud.

To the parents and guardians of our graduates, thank you for all your sacrifices. Thank you for believing that love conquers everything. Thank you for always being there. The years of your hard work can never be measured for they are invaluable. Perhaps, the best reason we have reached this pedestal is because of you. Thank you for dreaming for your children. Thank you for pushing them every time they seem to lose sight of their dreams. This moment is also for you, for you, you, parents and guardians are the heroes of your children. You are the reason why they keep on winning. You are the reason they keep on moving. You are the reason behind their every dream and joy. Let me say this to you our dear parents and guardians, job well done! You have done well. So please continue to support our graduates. And one day you will all reap the success that waits ahead of you.

Thank you for trusting us. Thank you for believing in us. Thank you for loving Notre Dame.

To the school Administration faculty and Staff of NDC, this success is also dedicated to you. All the hard work and preparations and practices just to make this event extra special. You have done well. Likewise, guiding and teaching the graduates will always be impossible without you. You bear all necessary efforts in bringing out the best in our graduates.

Four years ago during the time of Fr. Renante Aban, OMI since this dream has started. The long process of applying for SHS, preparing the documents, the physical preparations, hiring new personnel, training and research, DIYS, and How to DOs were tiring and at the same time exciting. But we were able to cope and adapt to the need. We were able to solve the problems and asked the right questions. Thank you NDC family. I will always be proud of you. Sometimes things may not be easy but if we work together nothing can stop us from doing great things. Thank you Sir Israel Maghanoy for facilitating the whole activity.  Even being the cantor and all. TO Sir Norman Singah for the simple yet spectacular stage decoration. TO our two lovely Emcees and the previous Emcess as well, thank you. All the working committees during the different events including tonight including some hardworking students who joined in the preparations from the very first day. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

And to all of us joining tonight’s celebration, our family, our stakeholders, the NDC Alumni family, and the PAGTA family, for always being there in our important milestones, to the different agencies, the DEPED family in Mapun, RHU, MOH, of course, the LGU, the Philippine Airforce, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast guard, the Philippines Marines, thank you for in one way or another you have been part of what we do and believe as Notre Dame of Cagayan. Thank you for your support and love for our Alma Mater. God is truly Good and Gracious. This first commencement exercise is a reminder that we are always in the heart and mind of God. That God truly cares for his people even here on the far island called Mapun. So let us continue to Hold ON To God and always trust His divine grace. Let me make some announcements. The start of Classes will be on August 21, 2023. The start of Enrollment will be on July 3, 2023 An update of our School building construction. Destiny

Sometimes THINGS happen almost repeatedly, one mistake today and tomorrow the same mistake you fall. And unbelievably they happen so fast but you can't track them anytime. Seriously! This is really sick! I always make the same mistake knowing that they are going the same route and end in the same feeling.  My heart once advised that the next time it happen it would be a different game, a different feeling of excitement but sadly I was wrong. I still missed the last spark to make the feeling into reality, making the ending open like a movie always creating another sequel to finally seize the whole picture and story. But, maybe there are things that just won’t work out for some people. Instead there are other things that are just meant for them. Well, I heard this from people, and they call it destiny. Crap! If this is what destiny for me, then holy crap! I just can’t figure out how to move next time. Why can’t I just make the perfect move now? I’m not comparing but some people can

Notre Dame of Cagayan: Evangelization Through Education

History The Notre Dame of Cagayan is located in a far distant island called Mapun, Tawi-Tawi. It is one of the Notre Dame schools founded by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in the Sulu and Tawi-Tawi archipelago to respond to the literary education needs of the local people. Among the Notre Dame schools, NDC is one of the farthest if not the most challenging mission area of the oblates particularly with regards to transportation. The Notre Dame of Cagayan was founded by the OMI Fathers in 1958. Fr. Maurice A. Hemann, OMI was its first school principal and director. During that time, the Notre Dame of Cagayan (NDC) was the only high school in the island municipality of Mapun. That is why most of the professionals coming from Mapun are graduates of NDC. The school in its long-standing influence through education has already produced doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers, architects, a lawyer, businessmen, entrepreneurs, a priest, and many others. LSIs and PUMs found refuge in OMI Retreat House

The Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help (SOMPH) retreat house in Binoligan, Kidapawan City, an OMI-run center has become a haven of refuge for several (Locally Stranded Individuals) LSIs and (Persons Under Monitoring) PUMs under the care of city government of Kidapawan. Since last year, the shrine has been accepting individuals and families under quarantine during the event of the pandemic.        Through the joint program of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) and Kidapawan City government, LSIs and PUMs are quarantined in the OMI retreat house, identified as one of the quarantine centers. In Kidapawan City, only a number of centers have been assigned for such delicate role of accepting person under quarantine.        The decision was made by Bp. Charlie Inzon, OMI, the apostolic vicar of Jolo Vicariate, who was then the OMI provincial superior during their meeting with Mayor Joseph Evanghelista of Kidapawan City, early last year. It was a huge decision for the OMI congrega
